Calculators aren't provided at the test center and you cannot share a calculator.

Quick Facts

  • Only the calculators listed here are accepted in the Math Test-Calculator part of the test.
  • You should not utilize an electronic calculator during portions of the Reading, Writing and Language, or Math Test--No Calculator portions, and must take away the calculator away during these sections that comprise the assessment.
  • You'll be disqualified and your scores will be canceled when you use your calculator to give out information during the exam, or to remove questions or their answers from the testing room.

Calculator Smarts

  • Bring your own calculator. You can't share one.
  • Don't bring a brand-new calculator. Bring a calculator that you're familiar with. Learn to take the test using the same calculator that you'll use on test day.
  • This Math Test includes some questions that you should not employ a calculator however it's permitted.
  • It can be beneficial to complete scratch work in the test book. Get your thoughts down before taking your calculator.
  • Be sure that your calculator is in good functioning order and that the batteries are fresh. The test center doesn't have batteries or extra calculators. If your calculator fails during testing and you're not able to find a replacement it will be necessary to pass the test without it.

SAT Subject Tests Calculator Policy

Calculators are only permitted for the Subject Tests for Mathematics. Refer to the rules and guidelines.

Acceptable Calculators

If you have a calculator with characters that are at least one inch tall or if the calculator has a display with a raised top that could be visible to other test takers, you'll be placed in the test at the discretion from the testing coordinator.

Only battery-operated, handheld equipment can be used for testing. Power cords are not permitted.

Calculators which are permitted during testing are:

  • The majority of graphing machines (see chart)
  • All scientific calculators
  • Every four-function device (not recommended)

Unacceptable Calculators

You aren't allowed to utilize any of these items as a calculator:

  • Laptops, other computers mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches, wearable technology or smartwatches
  • Models with the ability to connect to Internet are equipped with wireless, Bluetooth or cellular video recording and playing, camera, or any other features of a smartphone.
  • Models with a computer-style (QWERTY) keypad pen input or stylus
  • Models that have electricity outlets, make sounds or even have a paper tape
  • Furthermore, the use of hardware peripherals such as a stylus with an approved calculator is not allowed. Certain models that have touchscreen capabilities are not allowed (e.g., Casio ClassPad).
